"Miscellaneous"
from The Britican Perspective

So I feel as though I have nothing to say this week. Maybe it's just because it's late at night, I'm ready to go to bed, and I've had a very chilled out Saturday, so my mind is clear, relaxed, and not in any mood to cooperate. So, here follows some thoughts in a non-columnised, reasonably random fashion.
As everyone who knows me, has met me this week, or has had any type of conversational exchange with me at all (sorry, grocery bag-packing boy, I know you don't care), will have heard: I bought a car this week. It's a red Mustang and it's totally awesome.
I also just bought some CDs to listen to while I drive: Ramones, INXS, Otis Redding, Deep Purple, and They Might Be Giants. Otis Redding has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard, it's like eating toffee.
The car is named Delta. The girl I bought it from, a friend named Tiana, has an obsession with the Australian singer Delta Goodrem, and I am quite a fan also. Delta seemed a fitting name for the 'stang.
I work in Malibu, and am completely perplexed that every time I open a trashy magazine I see pictures of celebrities in Malibu, yet I never see these people when I'm out and about. My colleague claims to have seen Jason Biggs in the car park on Thursday, but I was driving and not paying attention to pedestrians beyond trying not to hit them. Darn my concentration. Kate Hudson, where are you hiding? Matthew M, feel free to surf up to me any day. Britney, please stop for gas at the same time as me, when you get a chance.
On a much more relevant note, I have taken to reading a wonderful magazine called Poets & Writers, in which the author Andre Dubus was recently profiled. Dubus was primarily a short story writer, and after reading this article, I was inspired to track down a collection of his work. I ended up finding Selected Stories, which contains stories about people and the consequences of their decisions. I recommend Dubus to you all, and I recommend you read Joshua Bodwell's P&W piece on him also. Read the article.
