Hello one and all to the very first post of Artful Muse in the very first issue of Calliope: Voice of the Writers! This is truly an auspicious and glorious day for all!

 For those of you wondering what this little corner of Calliope is all about, I’ll explain; these columns are basically weekly editorials by the masterminds behind this site. A place for us to write about, well, anything we want! Here at Artful Muse you can expect satire, social commentary, and eventually fictional serials among other things. Again, these are updated every week, so don’t forget to check back to see what new and exciting things are gracing the pages of Calliope!!

 My first regular feature is something I’ll be calling “Britain in Decline”. A very jolly and upbeat sounding feature I know, but it’s one that’s very close to my heart at the minute. You see, I consider myself a patriot, both a British and American patriot (I’m sure some would consider that an oxymoron, but aw well), so it saddens me when I witness one of my mother countries slowly destroy itself from the inside. Britain was once a proud and successful country; one that justified the moniker “Great” for more than just geographical reasons. Yet within just a few decades it’s been falling and falling and now seems to be falling even faster. So, for anyone who cares to read, I’ll be charting Britain’s tragic and continuing decline; but I must say, I pray this turns out to be a very short feature indeed.
